Newgate 180 is a treatment facility for people suffering from alcohol, drug and gambling addictions. It has separate residences for men and women.
AA service meetings (open speaker and discussion; no 7th Tradition) are held each Thursday at 8:00 p.m. at the men’s residence at 435 Main Street, Merrickville. The meetings are hosted by groups in District 48 (Seaway), District 54 (Ottawa-Rideau), District 58 (Bytown), District 62 (Ottawa-West) and District 66 (Lanark-Leeds). District 66 hosts meetings on the third Thursday of each month.
It is recommended that the meeting chair and speaker each have a minimum of two years of continuous sobriety and that both a male and female attend to host the meetings.
As Newgate treats clients with addictions other than alcohol, there may be people in attendance at the meetings who do not identify as alcoholics. Meeting chairs are asked to be patient and tolerant but to keep the discussion centred on alcohol and your personal journey in AA only. Anonymity is the spiritual foundation of all our traditions, ever reminding us to place principles before personalities.
Group General Service Representatives (GSRs) will be reminded of their group commitment a few days prior to their scheduled meeting. If your group cannot fulfil its commitment, please inform the District 66 Treatment Facilities chair with as much notice as possible.
Please contact the District 66 Treatment Facilities chair for more information or if you have any questions.
